SA Trend Wishlist

I read many fashion blogs and websites and most of these are based in the Northern Hemisphere. Because of this I am exposed to trends for seasons that must still reach South Africa. I am not one to follow each and every trend but certain trends appeal to me. Sometimes these trends don’t reach South African shops and I am sure there are many good reasons for this. I imagine that shops go to a great deal of effort to supply clothing that suits their markets. I can appreciate that, but sometimes I wish I didn’t have to get creative in order to buy the clothing I want. Getting creative could mean buying clothing from overseas, having them made or searching every possible shop until I find something similar.

I picked out three items that I hope I’ll be able to find easily as the days get warmer here in South Africa. They are are:

Do any of you have the same problem? What would you like to see in shops soon?

Crochet comeback

I have been very fascinated by some of the recent trends including clogs, over-the-knee socks, denim shirts and doc martens/lace-up boots. The reason for this fascination is that all of these trends were popular when I was a pre-teen to teen in the 90s. Seeing all these trends reinvent themselves today brings back very fond memories for me as a young girl starting to discover fashion.

Crochet is one of the trends that were very popular when I was younger. I remember owning and loving a white crochet top very much at the age of 10. They were extremely trendy in Cape Town at the time. Although I loved my crochet top I was undecided on whether I’d indulge in crochet this time around. After seeing some pictures of different bloggers wearing crochet in very different ways it got me thinking that there is a crochet style for everyone.

Currently craving: Leather skirt

Sometimes I see a certain item of clothing for the first time and I get extremely excited. This is how I felt when I saw this long length leather skirt on Vanessa Jackman’s blog. Needless to say, I really want a leather skirt! I love how the ladies in these photos styled their skirts. It definitely breaks away from the traditional view of leather skirts which is either tacky or bulky.
