I often wondered when popular street style photographer Ivan Rodic of Face Hunter would come to Africa and it’s finally happening. He will be in Cape Town from 14-21 March 2011. I am very eager to see Capetonians on his blog and I am glad that the world will be able to see some Cape Town style! According to his blog, there will be a book signing on 17 March and I hope to get my book signed. So, the question is Will You Get Face Hunted?

On Friday I attended the first Design For Style(DFS) Fashion Show for 2011. Naturally, I enjoyed it. It’s a fashion show after all and it’s no secret that I am a fashion enthusiast. What made me enjoy it even more is the fact that DFS aims at showcasing up and coming South African designers. I do have a soft spot for South African designers and often try to support their work.
The fashion show was held at Misael’s Art Gallery in Bree Street Cape Town. It was definitely the perfect place to hold a fashion show as it was spacious and had a bar! The designs of Zakirah Rabaney was the first to be shown. Her label is called pro*Zak and contains some bold, colourful, sexy and quirky items. I chatted to Zakirah afterwards and she described her collection as “M.I.A“. I couldn’t agree more. Here are my favourite looks from her collection:

Next up was the styling of Aqeelah Harron and Gabrielle Kannemeyer of Thrift Cape Town. It is very evident that these ladies have bright futures ahead of them. When the first model came up I found myself wanting the entire outfit and this happened repeatedly until the end of the show. These ladies sell their vintage finds via Facebook and after seeing my favourite looks below I am sure you’ll want friend them.

You can join DFS’s Facebook page for info on upcoming shows as well as a sale they’re having on the 26th February 2011 at Capellos. If you’re a new designer South African designer, drop them a line.

Rueben and I visited The Blue Bird Garage Vintage Market earlier today. I’ve been having some serious market withdrawal and this market gave me my fix! I liked what I saw which included lots of vintage clothing, collectibles and newly made accessories. I will definitely go back. See their Facebook page for info.

I’ve been ogling so many vintage dresses on Etsy. I definitely want a 50s full skirted dress, but I have no idea where I’d wear it to. I only know that I would feel very special and lady-like in a dress that comes from that era. The possibility of who wore the dress and what happened when she wore it is such a romantic concept. Wearing vintage is definitely a whole other experience than wearing something new.
Here are some of my favourite dresses found on Etsy:
Prance and Swagger

Crafty Crow Vintage

Dear Golden

Have a great weekend! Rueben and I are going on a mini-break this weekend and I am psyched! If you haven’t entered the Panda Panda and Friends giveaway yet you can do so here. 14 January is the last day to enter.

Having clothing that comes from different sources makes your wardrobe diverse and interesting. This is why I am always on the lookout for a new place to shop. I was very excited to hear that Aqeelah from Fashion Breed and her friend Gabbi started selling affordable vintage and leather goods. You can see from the pictures below that the goods are beautifully styled and photographed which is an extra bonus because you can get some inspiration on how to wear what you buy. To view the merchandise you need to ask Thrift Cape Town to be your friend on Facebook. All details are available on that profile on Facebook. Happy shopping ladies!
